Skylar's Services Used in Latest New York Newsday Project

MELVILLE, NY, Jan. 30 - As of January 30, 2006, NY Newsday launched their revised NY City website. Having over 4 million hits each month, this project was a critical undertaking for Newsday. In August 2005, Newsday contacted Skylar about their city website. Their biggest challenge was the overall file size of each web page. In general, for the average site user, this means more wait time for each page to render within their browser; and for most large organizations, this means higher costs.

At the early stages of the project, Skylar was specifically brought on to recode (from scratch) their major web pages. We were given just the visual designs and asked to recreate each section using the latest coding standards (i.e., using CSS technology). Overall, our main objective was to cut down the overall file size. To add to our challenge, we were only given one month to complete this task. We knew this was a large hill to hurdle, yet we were confident we could take on the project.

To the surprise of the Newsday Media team, Skylar completed the project within three weeks, one week ahead of schedule. In addition, we cut the homepage file size from 300KB to 110KB. This was a win-win for all of us.

Six months later, the project is finally completed. View the new website - AMNY.com
