Skylar Design Takes On Challenge to Create Cemetery Website
Center Moriches, NY, Nov. 03 - Creative challenges may be the very lifeblood that keeps us passionate about our work. With every project we encounter, we know it will be quite different from the previous one, an aspect we admire. It's a wonderful journey: of meeting new people with specialized skills and varied backgrounds, typically within a niche industry. This creative expedition is also about "listening" as well as "learning" from each other. When these two principles coincide, we can create web solutions that are profoundly effective and serve the needs of many. However, when Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association of Center Moriches approached us (Fall 2006) about redesigning their website, we knew this would creatively stretch us like we've never been before.
The essential question we asked ourselves: "How do you take on a web project - which is intended to serve and assist those who have lost loved ones - and give it the highest level of thought and respect it deserves, and yet still be distinct from other online cemetery associations? Our immediate approach was to consider the type of user(s) who might use the site. What were they looking for? What demographic information could we gather to understand our audience(s) better. More importantly, how could we serve them particularly those going through the immediate loss of a relative? Others might simply be preparing for their future.
Whatever the reason might be, our goal was to create a website that was far different than your average cemetery website. We wanted to communicate an entirely different message. Although the cemetery association is about providing services, we all agreed that this site must demonstrate genuine care and concern especially as it related to the passing of loved ones. We also felt the site should set the tone of tranquility, reflection and, most importantly, a high level of integrity.
It has been a pleasure to work with the association and we're honored that they would entrust Skylar with such an important project.
