Skylar Design Launches the Web Redesign Specialist's Project
Huntington, NY, Jun. 9 - My travels always lend themselves to meeting new people, seeing historical sites, and viewing magnificent landscapes. From the beaches of Florida, the arid Arizona desert, the windy city of Chicago, the historic sites of Massachusetts, to the palatial Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, each place offered a view that no idyllic work could ever capture in words. On such trips, I found my senses reinvigorated and an overwhelming desire to dream. In fact, on a few such occasions, I imagined the future of Skylar Design and the type of work I wanted to create. Now, I am seeing some of those dreams realized.
It is unfortunate, though, that even with all the natural wonders around us, I have also felt immense regret whenever I returned to NY and noticed the waste found along our highways. There was something innately wrong about this. I still find it offensive at how little we care about the natural environment. And, as most of us know, we are now reaping the repercussions of our apathy.
In some strange way, I find that same feeling whenever I browse the web. From a designer's vantage point, it's discouraging that there are so few visually appealing websites, although that is slowly changing. To be fair, for many years, we (as professional designers) had to be careful about the file size of a web page, and thus, images had to be kept to a minimum. We should still be concerned about load time; however, many sites are still being launched without much care to how they look visually.
I cannot claim to have professional training in design or years of schooling at an art institute. I am primarily self-taught. Nonetheless, as I see it, I am in "class" each day, the class of life. Daily, I am given opportunities to observe and experience what I had not seen before, and my surroundings are my teachers.
As a way of putting feet to my own call for change, I have decided to create a website that showcases some of my work over the years. One of my original dreams was to create distinct and aesthetically pleasing web interfaces. This project captures some of those redesign projects just by showcasing before and after homepages.
My hope is that this will not only showcase some of my work but will also inspire other professionals to make a difference in making the web a beautiful place to "walk through" each day.
